The Bedford police officer who was shot during a struggle with a suspect is out of he hospital. The incident happened Saturday morning when police responded to the Country Inn and Suites on South River Road after getting a call about a suspicious man. He’s scheduled to be arraigned today.
An investigation is now underway into what caused a crash on the Everett Turnpike that left a man seriously hurt. State Police say 19-year-old Michael Ruiz was traveling near Exit 10 in Merrimack Saturday when his vehicle went off the road, slammed into construction barrels and came to a rest near a wooded area. Ruiz needed to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries and no one else was hurt. Accident witnesses are asked to contact State Police.
NH State lawmakers kick off their 2025 legislative session this week, and another vote is expected on legalizing marijuana for recreational purposes. In the past, it has cleared one chamber of the legislature but never ended up on the governor’s desk. Supporters say marijuana legalization would generate tax revenue for the state, but opponents are concerned about the affect such a move would have on public health and safety. Governor-elect Kelly Ayotte has said repeatedly she’d veto such a measure.
