Gunfire Behind New Franklin School in Portsmouth Investigated

City police and school department leaders are investigating after an unidentified person fired a gun behind New Franklin School early last Friday morning.

According to police a person walking along Myrtle Avenue found shell casings near the tennis courts behind the elementary school.

City police began to investigate the shell casings and through school surveillance footage found a person had discharged the weapon around 2:30 a.m. Friday behind the school.

That person was not immediately identified.
