Women’s Health Protection Act Fails as Expected – Pappas Says Vote is Disappointing

A bill to legalize abortion nationally was defeated yesterday by Senate Republicans. The Senate voted down legislation to make a constitutional right to abortion federal law. It was a symbolic vote by Democrats designed to make Republicans go on the record as we approach the mid-term elections, and the Supreme Court seems likely to overturn Roe v. Wade.

The bill lost by a vote of 51-49 as expected, significantly shy of the 60 votes required by the Senate rules.

New Hampshire Congressman Chris Pappas, speaking with Mike Pomp today on the Morning Information Center, called the vote disappointing and concerning.
