Record High Inflation; The Impact On Family-Run Peters’ Farm in Salem
April 19, 2022

Every year is a gamble for local farmers, but inflation is raising the stakes.   Family farming has been in the Peter’s family for four generations.   Peters’ Farm has been a staple in the town of Salem since 1911.

“Oh, we have been doing it a while”, John Peters said on Good Morning New Hampshire.

The family says they survived COVID-19, a wet 2021 farming season, now they are facing record-high inflation.

“So many challenges, increased prices for labor, fertilizer feeds, fuel, parts for equipment.  I haven’t found one thing this year that has stayed the same”, Peters told Jack Heath.

Dan and Matt Peters say farming has always been difficult with the elements, even more now with the cost of everything rising.

“The cost of fertilizer is up 60 to 70%, it’s impacting us”, Dan said.

Jack asked them what the motivation is to continue, Matt said, “We grew up with it.  We like physical labor.  It’s all we have done, its what we know”.
