Durham Marathoner Dead After Biking Accident
The marathon community is mourning the loss of Robert Kennedy, a long-time Boston Marathon runner from Durham.
Newington police said crews responded to a bicycle accident on Little Bay Road on Saturday around 10 a.m.
Kennedy was traveling with a group of cyclists during the ‘Bikes and Beers’ cycling event when police say he lost control and fell to the ground.
He sustained a head injury and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. Kenney was 76.
He was known as one of the state’s most celebrated marathon runners. His long-term efforts had previously raised more than $300,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He had completed marathons in all 50 states.
Police are investigating the accident and are asking anyone with information to contact the department.
