Health Officials: Blue-Green Algae Blooms Persist in Parts of Lake Winnipesaukee
State health officials continue to advise residents and visitors to avoid parts of Lake Winnipesaukee amid blue-green algae concerns.
Warnings were first posted on Wednesday near Carry and Brewster beaches in Wolfeboro, as well as 19-mile and Tutonboro Neck.
The blooms reportedly manifest as surface scum or green clouds just below the surface.
Health officials say symptoms of exposure can include skin irritation, stomach cramps, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, fever, sore throat, headache, muscle and joint pain, mouth blisters and acute liver damage.
Children and pets reportedly are particularly vulnerable to these health issues.
