Manchester Mayor Requesting Money to Operate Shelter
Manchester Mayor Jay Ruais is making a request to the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners.
He is asking for more than $400,000 to help operate the city’s homeless shelter this winter.
Ruais wants to transition the Beech Street Shelter and Engagement Center from a city-led operation to a community-based one.
The shelter opened its doors last February and offers not only 24/7 services but also beds, showers and bathrooms.
So far, the county hasn’t responded to Ruais’ request.
