Portsmouth Approves One Million Dollars to Protect 100 Acre Woods
The City Council agreed to use $1 million from the city’s Conservation Fund to forever protect the ‘100 Acre Woods’ property from future development.
The council voted unanimously to spend the monies to obtain a conservation easement on about 94 acres of property at 820 Elwyn Road that is owned by Joseph Cavaretta, after hearing from a number of residents who supported the deal.
The Southeast Land Trust or SELT, a local nonprofit which conserves and stewards land, reached the agreement with Cavaretta on the conservation easement after 12 years of discussions.
