July 17, 2024

President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19, the White House announced on Wednesday. The president, who had been delivering speeches in Las Vegas, is experiencing mild symptoms, according to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

Biden will return to Delaware to self-isolate while continuing to fulfill his presidential duties, Jean-Pierre stated. The White House will provide regular updates on his condition as he carries out his responsibilities in isolation.

Biden’s physician reported that the president developed a runny nose and a “non-productive cough” on Wednesday afternoon. Despite feeling okay for his first event of the day, further testing confirmed his COVID-19 diagnosis. His symptoms remain mild, with a normal temperature and respiratory rate, and his pulse oximetry reading is at 97%.

The president has received his first dose of Paxlovid and will be self-isolating at his home in Rehoboth.
