Shipyard  Workers Exempt From Civilian Hiring Freeze

U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen said she is relieved with a Department of Defense decision regarding the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

DOD has decided shipyard workforces in Kittery and elsewhere are exempt from the federal government’s civilian hiring freeze.

Shaheen called the decision “a step in the right direction.”

However, she said the Trump administration must reinstate the probationary employees who were wrongly laid off.
