Suspect Dead Following Officer-Involved Shooting in Rochester
The suspect in a series of vehicle thefts in Rochester is dead following Friday night’s foot pursuit and ensuing confrontation with state and local law enforcement.
Authorities say 36-year-old Joseph Russell was declared dead at the scene after he pulled out a firearm as troopers were closing in on him.
The incident reportedly started when local police and state troopers spotted him on foot in a residential area of Rochester.
Pursuing troopers used a K-9 officer to bring Russell down, at which point officials say he brandished the firearm.
Two troopers opened fire, killing him.
No other injuries were reported.
