Suspect Dead, K-9 Officer Wounded Following Friday Police Response in Manchester
City officials are investigating Friday’s police shooting in Manchester that left a suspect dead.
Local police say officers called to Pine and Plummer streets around 10:30 a.m., arriving to find 35-year-old Jake Chiaradonna at the scene.
A foot chase ensued, during which the suspect reportedly stabbed a pursuing K-9 officer with a screwdriver.
Officials say he then confronted officers in a threatening manner, prompting at least one of the officers to open fire.
Chiaradonna, who was hit at least once, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died.
The K-9 officer reported is expected to recover.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
