Will Portsmouth Buy McIntyre Building for New City Hall, Police Station or Housing?
Fair market value for the city of Portsmouth to purchase the 2.1-acre Thomas J. McIntyre federal building property would likely be ‘in the range of $20 million to $25 million,’ according to a memo from high-ranking city staff to the City Council.
City staff evaluated a host of potential uses for the property, including using it as a home for a new City Hall, new police station or affordable housing.
The city staff also told councilors in the memo that the federal General Services Administration, which owns the property in the heart of downtown, told them the potential sale must have a public benefit.’
