Wind Chill Warning Issued For Parts Of NH

CONCORD, N.H. – The National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, issued a Wind Chill Warning for parts of New Hampshire Monday night into Tuesday morning.

The New Hampshire Department of Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management urges residents and visitors to take action and prepared for extreme cold.

A Wind Chill Warning is in effect for Coos and Grafton counties from 10 p.m. Monday, January 10, to noon Tuesday, January 11, 2022, Wind chills could reach 30 to 40 degrees below zero.

A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for parts of Belknap, Carroll, Cheshire, Hillsborough, Merrimack, Rockingham, Strafford and Sullivan counties from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2022. Wind chills could reach 20 to 25 degrees below zero.

“Remember to check on your family, the elderly, or others with access and functional needs, this includes your pets, to make sure they are safe and have heat,” said Jennifer Harper the Director of the NH Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

“Stay indoors if you can. If you must go outside, dress in layers, cover exposed skin and limit time outside.”

The dangerously cold wind chill could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

Harper offers these tips for staying safe during extreme cold:

-Stay indoors as much as possible.
-Wear several layers of loose-fitting clothing when outdoors, including hat, scarf and gloves.
-If clothing becomes wet, remove it immediately.
-Return indoors when shivering.
-Bring animals indoors.
