Bill to Ban Disposal of Batteries, Some High-Tech Items Headed for Governor Sununu’s Desk
A bill that would ban the disposal of lithium and ion batteries is on its way to the desk of New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu.
House Bill 1386 would also ban the disposal of wireless phones, printers, copiers, electric typewriters, fax machines and most computer components.
Proponents of the bill say these items can release toxic compounds into groundwater and have been linked to at least three New Hampshire fires over the past four years.
The bill would also require landfill operators to prevent the disposal of the listed items.
