Renovations for North Church in Portsmouth
The historic North Church in downtown Portsmouth will undergo $1.4 million dollars in renovations.
The project is being funded with money from the sale of the church’s former Spinney Road parish house, which was purchased by the Islamic Society of the Seacoast area.
At the top of the improvements is a plan to move the back of the church’s balcony closer to the pulpit by about 10 feet and move a few pews from the floor to the balcony.
A contractor will also improve lighting and the handicap ramp, build offices closer to the front door, and add an ADA accessible bathroom and a nursery. The front doors will also be widened.
