Investigation Underway Into Drowning

An investigation is underway into what’s being called an apparent drowning in Merrimack County.

State Police Marine Patrol was contacted yesterday about a swimmer who entered the Merrimack River in Canterbury and never resurfaced.

The man, later identified as 19-year-old Robert Batchelder, had gone swimming with coworkers when he ended up in the middle of the river.

Batchelder was rushed to a nearby hospital but couldn’t be saved.
