Navy Boss, US senators Discuss Portsmouth Naval Shipyard
Top Navy Admiral Mike Gilday, the U.S. chief of naval operations at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, was joined by Senators Susan Collins and Maggie Hassan on Seavey Island for an update on upgrades and expansion of the yard’s Dry Dock 1 area, where Navy attack submarines are repaired, maintained and modernized.
The multi-year, $1.8 billion project is being funded through the federal Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program, a 20-year, $21 billion effort to upgrade the Kittery base and the nation’s three other public shipyards.
