This Week in 1988 These 5 Songs Dominated the Billboard Top 100
It’s always nice to take a walk down memory lane and re-discover some of the music from years ago and compare it to music today.
This week, let’s go back in time to the year 1988 and look at the top five songs from the Billboard Hot 100 for this week, January 7th (from the days when MTV actually played music videos).
5. Michael Jackson – “The Way You Make Me Feel”
Coming in at number five is the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, with “The Way You Make Me Feel”, one of five number ones from his 1987 album “Bad.” Still a great song you still hear on the radio today.
4. Whitesnake – “Is This Love”
At number four this week in 1988, a hair band that made a ballad that was a big departure from their more rock-oriented songs. It’s Whitesnake with “Is This Love.”
3. George Michael – “Faith”
George Michael had one of the biggest albums of 1987 and maybe even of the 80’s with “Faith.” Here he is with the number three song this week in 1988, the title track “Faith.”
2. George Harrison – “Got My Mind Set on You”
A Beatle makes a long awaited return to the charts with his 1987 solo album with this song that topped out at number two this week in 1988. George Harrison with “Got My Mind Set on You.”
1. Whitney Houston – “So Emotional”
And finally, one of the biggest selling female artists of all time, with one of the biggest voices of all time, the great Whitney Houston with “So Emotional.”
And now to present day: the number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for the seventh week in a row is Ariana Grande with “Thank You, Next.”
