Convict Back in Custody Following Brief, Friday-Night Escape from Concord Hospital

A convict who escaped from escaped from Concord Hospital late Friday night is back in custody.

Local police say 36-year-old Benjamin Ayala was reported missing shortly after 10 p.m. Friday.

A little past midnight, officers spotted him near North Fruit Street.

After a brief foot chase, officers apprehended Ayala, who reportedly has a long criminal history that includes a number of convictions for violent crimes.

No injuries were reported during the officers’ apprehension of Ayala.

Charges are pending.
