June 5, 2024

For the first time in more than 70 years, a caterpillar that’s known to cause rashes has been found in the Granite State.

The hairs on the browntail moth caterpillar can trigger a reaction similar to if someone came in contact with poison ivy.

The Forest Health Bureau said Monday caterpillar webs were spotted and removed from the coastline along the Isle of Shoals in Portsmouth.
