Dozens Gathers in Portsmouth to Support Man Assaulted in Racially Motivated Attack
Dozens gathered at the African Burying Ground Memorial in Portsmouth Sunday afternoon to show their support for a man who said he was assaulted in a racially motivated attack last month.
The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office has not yet called this a hate crime, but its civil rights unit is investigating.
Mamadou Dembele alleges whoever attacked him used racist language that led him to believe it was racially motivated.
“Mamadou, thank you for being courageous and for standing up and raising your voice and helping us raise our voices as well,” said Will Arvelo, the chair of the Business Alliance for People of Color.
