Election Day Is Finally Here

Election Day Is Finally Here

Election day is finally here and New Hampshire’s Secretary of State David Scanlon is predicting a record turnout of 824,000 voters to cast their ballots today.

The first in-person votes in the race for the White House were cast at midnight in NH with the residents of Dixville Notch talking part in their tradition of midnight voting.  Three votes were cast for Democrat and Vice President Kamala Harris, while three people voted for Republican and ex-President Donald Trump.

Only two presidential candidates have ever earned every vote in Dixville Notch.  They were Richard Nixon in 1960 and President Biden in 2020.

Polling place closing times vary across New Hampshire.  Some polls close at 7pm and 7:30 while the last polling places close at 8pm.  Anyone in line when polls close will still be allowed to cast their ballot.  All polls in Maine by law are open until 8pm.

Maine had the highest voter turnout in the nation in 2022, and officials expect to see strong participation again this year.
