Fisherman Dead After Canoe Capsizes

A New Hampshire man is dead after he drowned in a Canterbury pond early Friday night.

State officials say the victim, whose identity was not released, was fishing with his fiancé when the couple’s canoe capsized around 7:30 p.m.

The man reportedly went under and failed to resurface, remaining underwater for several minutes until his fiancé was able to locate him and pull him to shore.

Efforts to resuscitate the man were unsuccessful.

First responders pronounced him dead at the scene a short time later.

No other injuries were reported.
