Lawmakers Block Effort to Create Minimum Sentences for Fentanyl Dealers
State lawmakers are blocking an effort to create mandatory minimum prison sentences for fentanyl dealers.
Democrats were among those most against the idea, saying that just because a person has a large amount of fentanyl, they should not be considered a drug dealer.
Other opponents expressed concern that marijuana users could get caught up in laws that target fentanyl dealers.
Republicans say any bill that’s passed wouldn’t target people struggling with addiction.
