A third federal judge today blocked President Donald Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship for the children of people who are in the U.S. illegally. The ruling from U.S. District Judge Joseph N. Laplante in New Hampshire comes after two similar rulings by judges in Seattle and Maryland last week. Laplante, who was nominated by Republican President George W. Bush, said he wasn’t persuaded by the Trump administration’s defense of the executive order. He said he would issue a longer preliminary injunction later explaining his reasoning.
One person is dead and two others injured following a crash in Portsmouth over the weekend. Police say the two-vehicle collision happened Saturday at the intersection of Mirona Road and Lafayette Road in Portsmouth. A pickup truck driver slammed into the back of a sedan and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. A driver and passenger in the car were hurt but are going to be OK. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Police arrested a Connecticut man who was allegedly driving at speeds upward of 125 mph on Interstate 93 in Campton. The Campton Police Department said around 11:30 Sunday morning, officers attempted to stop a driver in a Jeep Cherokee on I-93 northbound who was going about 98 mph. Authorities said the driver, identified as Mark Fabrizi of Stratford, Connecticut, then sped up and began weaving in and out of traffic at speeds upward of 125 mph. Campton police said the New Hampshire State Police helped stop Fabrizi near Exit 28 on I-93, where he was arrested shortly after.
