An executive order issued by President Trump is now blocked following a ruling by a federal judge in New Hampshire. The order calls for birthright citizenship to be denied for children who are born in the United States to noncitizens. Opponents said the order disregarded the constitution, which says anyone born in the U.S. is automatically a citizen and the judge agreed. A nationwide hold on the order was issued last week.
NH Governor Kelly Ayotte and a Massachusetts mayor are promising to work together to combat the illegal drug trade. Ayotte and Lawrence, Massachusetts Mayor Brian DePena met at the State House in Concord yesterday. Ayotte and DePena expressed concern over the amount of fentanyl and other narcotics that are going across the border of both states. The leaders also say they hope this meeting is the start of an excellent working relationship.
A now-former Claremont Middle School teacher is behind bars after being accused of stalking a student. Superintendent Chris Pratt sent a letter to parents saying the decision has been made to fire 38-year-old Erin Mullen after she violated a court order that told her to stay away from the student. Once police realized the order was violated, they took Mullen into custody and she’s being held in the Sullivan County House of Corrections. A push is now underway to get Mullen’s teaching license revoked.
Three hikers from Massachusetts were rescued off Mount Lafayette on Sunday after attempting to trek through white-out conditions and intense cold. New Hampshire Fish and Game said around 5:30 p.m., they received an SOS alert from a group of three hikers near Mount Lincoln that were suffering from injuries related to the intense cold. Officials said the group was fairly well prepared but lacked experience.
