Police ID Suspect Who Died Friday After He Opened Fire at Manchester Police
Local authorities are releasing the identity of a man who was fatally shot by police late Friday morning in Manchester.
Department sources say officers called to the scene of an earlier shooting approached 56-year-old Andrew E. Smith at around 9 a.m. near Beech and Bridge streets.
Moments later, Smith reportedly told them he was armed, reached into his pocket and pulled out a firearm.
A struggle followed, during which Smith fired at least one round, at which point officers responded in kind, fatally shooting Smith.
No other injuries were reported.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
