Portsmouth Coal Power Plant to Close

New England’s last two coal power plants, both located in New Hampshire, will close.

Schiller Station in Portsmouth will shut down in June 2025, and Merrimack Station in Bow will cease operations in June 2028.

Wednesday’s announcement from Granite Shore Power ends pending litigation filed by the Conservation Law Foundation and the Sierra Club under the Clean Water Act.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency also signed onto on the agreement.
