Portsmouth Shipyard Exemption

The Navy is being asked to seek an exemption for Portsmouth Naval Shipyard workers from the Trump administration’s federal workforce reduction plan.
New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Maine Senator Susan Collins said increasing military threats are reasons to leave the shipyard workforce intact.
In a letter to the acting Secretary of the Navy, they said without the shipyard workers, the ability to repair, retrofit and refuel the country’s submarines would be in jeopardy.
The shipyard is on Seavey’s Island in Kittery, Maine and borders Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
