Rye Police to Charge Driver After Fiery Crash onto Wallis Sands Beach
A driver who remained hospitalized Tuesday is expected to be charged by police after allegedly speeding on Ocean Boulevard before a fiery crash and 100-foot drop onto the beach at Wallis Sands State Park early Sunday.
Rye Police Chief Kevin Walsh said a 41-year-old Salem man will be charged, at a minimum, with reckless operation stemming from the Father’s Day accident.
The driver sustained broken bones and lacerations, Walsh said, adding no one else was injured.
The town’s police and fire departments were called to respond at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, when it was reported a vehicle had crashed on the beach and caught fire.
