Salem Man Arrested for Alleged Role in January 6th Protests

A Salem man has been arrested for his alleged role in violent protests at the U.S. Capitol more than two years ago.

Richard Ackerman is accused of taking a police helmet and throwing a water bottle at police officers on January 6th, 2021.

Court records say he kept the helmet and it was recovered from his home by the FBI.

Thousands of people stormed the Capitol to try and stop Congress from certifying President Biden’s victory over former President Donald Trump.
