Slow Progress in New Hampshire Electric Vehicle Debate
The number of electric vehicles in New Hampshire is expected to hit 100,000 by the end of this decade, according to the Independent System Operator of New England.
But New Hampshire legislators are divided over what approach to take with EVs.
Some legislators, fearing car fires and a still-developing technology, hope to move away from the vehicles.
Others, citing the environment and tourism, seek to facilitate their adoption.
This divide is reflected in seven bills filed this session in the New Hampshire Legislature, some of which conflict with each other: for example, one would ban electric vehicles from parking in parking garages, while another would ban gas cars from parking in electric vehicle spaces.
New Hampshire lags behind neighboring states in electric vehicle infrastructure and legislation.
