Winter Storm To Impact NH Thursday Into Friday

The National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, issued a Winter Storm Warning for Northern New Hampshire and a Winter Storm Watch for Central and Southern New Hampshire starting Thursday afternoon and continuing through Friday night.

New Hampshire Department of Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation remind residents and visitors to be prepared and plan for extra travel time if you must drive.

-Coos and Grafton Carroll counties are under a Winter Storm Warning from 1 p.m. Thursday through 7 p.m. Friday. Total snow accumulations of 7 to 10 inches are expected.

-Belknap, Merrimack, Sullivan and Strafford counties are under a Winter Storm Watch from Thursday evening through late Friday night. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 9 inches and sleet accumulations of around ⅓ of an inch are possible.

-Hillsborough and Rockingham and Cheshire counties are under a Winter Storm Watch from Thursday evening through late Friday night. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches, sleet accumulations of around ½ of an inch and ice accumulations of a light glaze are possible.

“If you must travel, make sure your vehicle’s winter emergency kit is stocked”, said New Hampshire Homeland Security and Emergency Management Director Jennifer Harper.

The timing of this storm means the Friday morning commute could be very difficult.

“New Hampshire is yet again preparing for a statewide snowstorm,” said NHDOT Commissioner Victoria Sheehan. “However this storm will also deliver mixed precipitation to much of the state in the form of sleet. The timing and duration of this storm Thursday evening through Friday evening means that there are many who will likely be commuting for work. We ask that anyone who can defer travel until after the storm to please do so in order to allow our crews the time that they need to attend to snow removal operations. For those who must travel, please check travel conditions for your route and drive for conditions, allowing yourself plenty of time to reach your destination and ample space between your car and others. We will be out statewide for this event so please, don’t ever crowd our plows.”
