NH DHHS Identifies Season’s First Positive Test for West Nile Virus in Mosquito Batch in Manchester
July 29, 2022

Concord, NH – West Nile has been detected for the first time in a batch of mosquitos in Hillsborough County.

The NH Department of Health and Human Services say the batch was collected by the City of Manchester Health Department on July 20, 2022, as part of the City’s proactive surveillance program.

No human cases have been confirmed so far this year. Symptoms usually appear within a week after being bitten and can include flu-like illness including fever, muscle aches, headaches, and fatigue.

Many people may not develop any symptoms, or only develop very mild symptoms.

A very small percentage of individuals infected with WNV can go on to develop more serious central nervous system disease, including meningitis or encephalitis.

If you or someone you know is experiencing flu-like symptoms, including fever and headache, contact your local medical provider.
